Work is an essential part of our lives, a fundamental pillar in which we
invest a lot of our time. However, when we are asked if we are happy with our
jobs, the response is generally: “no”.
How is it possible that we invest so much time doing something that
does not make us happy?
From all the answers which this question provokes, it is evident that we need
to make different choices to the ones we have at present, for us to have job
satisfaction.
It is within this context that the term
“happyshifters”
appear.
These are people for whom work is a fundamental factor for
achieving happiness.
We find them half way between the workaholics, people addicted to work, and
the downshifters, those who decide to stop working because they cannot find what
they want for the amount of hours they work. While the latter leave to have a
simpler lifestyle as much as possible, the happyshifters find job satisfaction a
must in order to be happy.
Many working people put forward the following as reasons for their happiness:
good salary, close proximity to home or a job that is easy and simple to get to,
and routine. Happyshifters, in contrast, put the satisfaction of doing their
jobs first and foremost; they prioritize what that entails,
and even
scrutinize their professional profile and what they do in order to achieve that
happiness, which makes them ideal candidates for the market or their
organization.
This is an ideal which is increasingly gathering admirers and applicants.
However, not everyone considers himself a
happyshifter: Let us exclude
those who are pessimistic, afraid of the future and unwilling to undertake any
venture or lack knowledge of themselves; and similarly, those who feel panic
when they have to take control of their lives and blame others for their
personal or professional problems.
In contrast, those of you who believe that happiness is in your hands and
strive to achieve it, congratulations. You may call yourself a
happyshifter.
