MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Of monsters and men

Examples: "We had a little talk about your behaviour"
(Tuvimos una charla sobre tu comportamiento)

"We should have a little talk about what happened before"

And now...sing and practise your English!

I'll tell me ma

"I'll Tell Me Ma" (also called "The Wind") is a well known children's song. It was collected in various parts of England in the 19th century. In Ireland the chorus usually refers  to Belfast city and is known colloquially as "The Belle of Belfast City", although it is also adapted to other Irish cities, such as Dublin. English versions refer to the "Golden City" or "London City".

Gotye "Somebody I used to know"

The song of the week is "Sombeody I used to know" from Gotye.
It's a sad song but it seems that everybody likes it!

Belle and Sebatian

Belle and Sebastian are a band from Glasgow

Another sunny day,
I met you up in the garden
You were digging plants,
I dug you, beg your pardon
I took a photograph of you
in the herbaceous border
It broke the heart of men
and flowers and girls and trees
Another rainy day,
we're trapped inside with a train set
Chocolate on the boil,
steamy windows when we met
You've got the attic window
looking out on the cathedral
And on a Sunday evening
bells ring out in the dusk
Another day in June,
we'll pick eleven for football
We're playing for our lives
the referee gives us fuck all
I saw you in the corner of my eye on the sidelines
Your dark mascara bids me to historical deeds
Everybody's gone
you picked me up for a long drive
We take the tourist route
the nights are light until midnight
We took the evening ferry over to the peninsula
We found the avenue of trees went up to the hill
That crazy avenue of trees, I'm living there still
There's something in my eye
a little midge so beguiling
Sacrificed his life to bring us both eye to eye
I heard the Eskimos
remove obstructions with tongues, dear
You missed my eye,
I wonder why, I didn't complain
You missed my eye,
I wonder why, please do it again
The lovin is a mess
what happened to all of the feeling?
I thought it was for real;
babies, rings and fools kneeling
And words of pledging trust
and lifetimes stretching forever
So what went wrong?
It was a lie, it crumbled apart
Ghost figures of past,
present, future haunting the heart

Dory Previn

Dory Previn is one of my favourite singers and she has died today.

News from the BBC to practise your reading:

Dory Previn, the US singer and composer who collaborated with former husband Andre on two Oscar-nominated songs, has died in Massachusetts at the age of 86.
Born Dorothy Veronica Langan in 1925, she began as a lyricist before finding success as a solo artist in the 1970s.
She married Andre Previn in 1959 and worked with him on the theme to 1967's Valley of the Dolls.
After he left her for Mia Farrow, she recorded such albums as On My Way to Where and Mythical Kings and Iguanas.
Award success came at last in 1983, when she received an Emmy for co-writing the theme song to TV show Two Of A Kind.

yada yada yada yada yada
let's stop talking talking talking
wasting precious time
just a lot of empty noise
that isn't worth a dime
words of wonder
words of whether
should we shouldn't we
be together
yada yada yada yada yada yada
let's stop talking talking talking
taking up our lives
saying things that don't make sense
hoping help arrives
curse my questions
damn your qualms
tomorrow they could be
dropping bombs
and we go yada yada yada yada yada
so we sit
at a restaurant table
discussing reasons
we're unable to commit
that's not it
all i want
is to please and enjoy you
what makes you think
i'll be out to destroy you
if you commit
that's not it
is it something you sense
underneath my defenses
that makes me a threat
that's not it
and yet
suppose that's it
 I don't want to
think about that now
let's stop talking talking talking
every lame excuse
justifying alibying
listen what's the use
the sparrow chirps
the chipmunk chatters
and we go on as mad as a hatter
and nothing at all gets said
talk to me please
in bed
where it matters
yada yada yada yada yada
LADY WITH THE BRAID
would you care to stay till sunrise
it's completely your decision
it's just that going home is such a ride
going home is such a ride
going home is such a ride
going home is such a low and lonely ride

would you hang your denim jacket
near the poster by picasso
do you sleep on the left side or the right
would you mind if i leave on the light
would you mind if it isn't too bright
now i need the window open
so if you happen to get chilly
there's this coverlet my cousin hand crocheted
do you mind if the edges are frayed
would you like to unfasten my braid

shall i make you in the morning
as cup of instant coffee
i will sweeten it with honey and with cream
when you sleep
do you have dreams?
you can read the early paper
and i can watch you while you shave
oh god the mirror's cracked
when you leave
will you come back?
you don't have to answer that at all
the bathroom door is just across the hall
you'll find an extra towel on the rack
on the paisley patterned papered wall
there's a comb on the shelf
i papered that wall myself
that wall
myself

would you care to stay till sunrise
it's completely your decision
it's just the night cuts through me like a knife
would you care to stay awhile and save my life?
would you care to stay awhile and save my life?
i don't know what made me say that
i've got this funny sense of humor
you know i could not be downhearted it i tried
it's just that going home is such a ride
going home is such a ride
going home is such a ride
isn't going home is such a low and lonely ride?

Amy Macdonald

Amy Macdonald, born 25 August 1987  is a Scottish recording artist. Macdonald rose to fame in 2007 with her debut album, This is the life (2007). The single charted at number one in six different countries worldwide, and charted inside the top ten in another eleven countries worldwide.

LYRICS
A poetic genius is something I don’t see
why would a genius be trippin on me
And he's looking at me now
But what he can’t see
Is that I’m looking through his eyes
So many lies behind his eyes
And tell me stories from your past
Sing me songs you wrote before
I tell you this my poison prince
You'll soon be knockin’ on heaven’s door

Some kinda poison prince with your eyes in a daze
Some kinda poison prince your life is like a maze
And what we all want, and what we all crave
is an upbeat song so we can dance..
The night away

Oh who said life was easy
who said life was fair
who said nobody gives a damn and nobody even cares
The way you’re acting now like you left that all behind
You've given up, you've given in
Another sucker of that slime

Some kinda poison prince with your eyes in a daze
Some kinda poison prince your life is like a maze
And what we all want, and what we all crave
is an upbeat song so we can dance..
The night away

"If you were a wink, I'd be a nod"

Gogol Bordello - Wonderlust King

Back in the day yo" as we learned
A man was not considered to be
Considered to be fully grown
Has he not gone beyond the hills
Has he not crossed the 7 seas
Yeah, 7 seas at least!

Now all them jokers kept around
Just like the scarecrows in hometown
Yeah, scarecrows in hometown
From screen to screen they're travelin'
But I'm a wonderlust king

I stay on the run
Let me out
Let me be gone
In the world's beat up road sign
I saw new history of time...
New history of time!!!

Through Siberian woods
Breaking up their neck

Chinese moving in building discoteques

Transiberian sex toys and what a nut
Yeah, and why not?
Well at least it's something different
From what they got in every other airport

Ja ne evrei, no koje-chto pohozge
sovrat ne dast ni Yura ni Seryozga!
Simple because I'm not a total gadjo
Da ja shut, ja tziratch, nu tak stozge?

I traveled the world
Looking for understanding
Of the times that we live in
Hunting and gathering first hand information
Challenging definitions of sin

I traveled the world
Looking for lovers
Of the ultimate beauty
But never settled in
I'm Wonderlust King!

And presidents
And billionaires
And generals
They'll never know
What I have owned!
What I have owned...
I'm a wonderlust king!

Hello, I love you

Jason Mraz "I'm yours"

Por cierto, what a beautiful song!!!

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
you bet = you can be sure
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
To be chill = ser frio to chill = relax, take it easy, not get overexcited
To be hot= caliente (sexy) To melt= derretir
I fell right through the cracks, now I'm trying to get back
To fall=caer   To get back = volver
Before the cool done run out I'll be giving it my best test
To run out =acabar

And nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some
But I won't hesitate no more, no more
To hesitate= dudar
It cannot wait, I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me

Open up your plans and then you're free
open up = abrir plenamente.
Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
Look into your heart and you will find love, love, love, love
 look into= investiga/examina tu corazón
Listen to the music of the moment people, dance and sing
We're just one big family
And it's our God-forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved
So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm sure
There's no need to complicate, our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours
Fate= destino

I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
looking at myself in the mirror unsure of myself, of my looks, of my worth
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
To bend over= reclinarse
bend over backwards to do something = making a supreme effort
But my breath fogged up the glass
 fog up = empañar
And so I drew a new face and I laughed

I guess what I be saying is there ain't no better reason
There ain’t = there is not (colloquial)
To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
To rid = deshacerse (deshacerte de tus vanidades/orgullo)
Go with the seasons= dejarse llevar – go with the flow, let it be...
It's what we aim to do, our name is our virtue
But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm sure
There's no need to complicate, our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

Open up your mind and see like me

Open up your plans and damn you're free

Look into your heart and you'll find that the sky is yours

……..I'm yours
